I can’t share a full client wedding album here—there are simply too many personal moments and family photos woven throughout. But a blog post comes pretty close. It gives you a glimpse into how I tell the story of a wedding, what I naturally focus on, and how I capture not only the big moments, but all the little personal details that make each celebration unique.

A huge thank you to M + M for letting me put this together and share their beautiful day as a way to showcase Hastings House on Salt Spring Island.

Words from the bride: "Oh my goodness these are amazing, better than I could’ve imagined, thank you so so much for everything! Yes of course you can share anything you’d like" -  Mieke

The Hastings House has Rustic-chic guest accommodations that are really perfect for getting ready. With 18 total suites and rooms accommodating small overall numbers, while its event and meeting spaces hold up to 100 people.

M+M choose to do a first look. Doing this instead of waiting for the ceremony is a personal choice but it does have its advantages. I find it allows you to have that moment together, and gives you a chance to settle nerves before you walk down the isle with your loves ones.

Doing a first look before the ceremony also gives us time to take portraits before the guests arrive so you can maximize your time with them during the festivities.

Finding a local florets makes all the different. The flowers can be picked fresh from the garden, arranged and handed to you right before you need them. These flowers were created by Lost Field Farms. The grew, arrange and created the arbor for the ceremony.

Finding a beautiful ceremony location surrounded by nature on Salt Spring Island isn’t hard. Finding one that is accessible for all ages, while also offering the facilities and comforts your guests need, is another story.

Hastings House has it all. From the beautiful natural setting to the thoughtful details and amenities, everything is taken care of, making it easy for you to simply show up, settle in, and enjoy your day.

A few more photos were taken on the way back from Family photos in the Garden.

Some weddings feel especially connected to their setting, and this celebration at Hastings House on Salt Spring Island was one of them. With a timeless venue, beautiful island scenery, and a relaxed atmosphere, the day had all the elements that make wedding photography feel both meaningful and natural.

As a Salt Spring Island wedding photographer, I love documenting moments as they unfold. My approach is always centered on candid connection, which gives couples the space to enjoy the day while I capture the genuine laughter, quiet glances, and in-between moments that tell the full story.

Hastings House offered an elegant backdrop that felt refined without losing its warmth. It was the kind of location that allowed every part of the day to feel intentional, from the atmosphere to the smallest emotional details. For couples planning a wedding in Saltspring Island, BC, this setting is a beautiful reminder that the right venue can elevate the entire experience.

What stands out most from weddings like this is not just the scenery, but the feeling. The joy of being surrounded by the people who matter most, the calm of moving through the day with ease, and the beauty of having those moments preserved with care.

For Billie Woods Photography, that balance of polish and authenticity is always the goal. Whether your wedding takes place at Hastings House or another unforgettable Salt Spring Island location, the focus remains the same: creating images that feel honest, elevated, and true to your story.

Every wedding deserves to be remembered with honesty and care.
